Who is Nicholaus Arnold?

Nicholaus Arnold received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wright State University and his Master of Fine Arts from Syracuse University where he received the prestigious Shaffer Fellowship, quite a few pats on the back, and numerous “thumbs-ups”. He currently runs The Blue House Gallery with his wife Ashley and is the University of Dayton Galleries Director. Despite managing these multiple jobs he maintains his own studio practice in Dayton and exhibits locally and nationally with pointed works of art designed to generally make his audience feel at home with his weird sense of humor. Nick is quite comfortable with practicing in most art mediums, and writing about himself in the third person.

Artist Statement

My name is Nicholaus Arnold and I’m a semi-conceptual artist. My work is humorous and seemingly lackadaisical in nature. Be that as it may, I care a lot about the process and craft that takes me from the moment of inspiration to the final product, so as not to undermine the conceptual nature of my works. Aesthetically my work is very dry and simple in it’s delivery of concepts and very direct in its formal attributes. The work varies across mediums and styles and is completely dependent on the best vehicle needed to deliver my ideas to an audience. My art is inspired through my own banal experiences that I universalize and vignette to further conceptual engagement with the viewer.
